Outcome Based Education: Teaching, Learning & Evaluation
Department of ME, ABES Engineering College conducted 5-days FDP on Outcome Based Education: Teaching, Learning & Evaluation from 18th June-22nd June, 2018. Around 60 faculties participated from reputed institutions for this session. The program was fully sponsored by Dr. APJ AKTU under TEQIP-III. NBA (National Board of Accreditation) has introduced a new process, parameters and criteria for accreditation which increasingly make it mandatory for all engineering programs to implement Outcome Based Education (OBE).
This program was inaugurated by our honorable Chief Guest, Dr. K.K. Aggarwal, and Chancellor of K. R. Mangalam University, Gurugram and ABES Dignitaries – Prof. Gajendra Singh (Director), Dr. R.K. Shukla (HOD-ME), Dr. Hemat Ahuja (HOD-EN) and others from ABES Faculty. In this event, around 14 renowned faculties from different institutions and organizations around nation were invited as keynote speakers like Dr. A.K. Tandon (Founder and Director of BPIT, Delhi), Dr. Pratul Arvind (NIEC, Delhi), Dr. Rashmi Agarwal (IMT Ghaziabad), Dr. Vinay Gaur (HEC, Yamunanagar), Dr. Rohit Mehra (NIT Jalandhar), Dr. Raman Bedi (NIT Jalandhar), Dr. Mohammad Rihan (AMU, Aligarh), Dr. Neeraj Singhal (Apeejay School of Management, Delhi), Dr. Suresh Ramaswamyreddy (BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore) and Mr. Mohammed Kaleem (Ion Idea, Bengalure).
All speakers speech were inspirational and encouraging for participants as well as for organizers in understanding the OBE culture, its implementation in current academics, getting NBA accreditation, software’s which can help with accreditation process etc. Since, our present teaching learning processes are geared towards old Input-based model rather than new Outcomes-based model. So these sessions are helpful to educate the young as well as senior faculty members on how to reorient their teaching learning processes to implement Outcome Based Education (OBE) or other techniques in both letter and spirit. Articulation of course outcomes for a particular course, various direct and indirect assessment techniques and their evaluation were covered in detail.
As per participants and speakers feedback, these kind of education based sessions should be organized in regular intervals for their understanding towards educating students as well as for their personal and recent development in the field of education. Also OBE will be a tool for continuous improvement for institutions as well as faculty.
Valedictory session was completed with appreciation and participation certificates distribution by Dr. R.K. Shukla (HOD-ME and Convener) and Dr. R. K. Singhal (Head – MBA) along with Dr. Ashish Malik (Program Coordinator) and Program organizing committee members (Mr. N.P. Singh, Mr. Manish Mangal, Mr. Ankur Dixit, Ms. Monika Chauhan, Mr. Saurabh and Mr. S.P. Singh).
